MAKING YOUR BUSINESS GREENER

Reduce

STEP 2:

ENCOURAGE AND EMPOWER YOUR STAFF

to make a difference at work and in the community. Staff who understand the issues and are involved in developing solutions can give your business a cutting edge.

Encourage and empower your people to play an active role

Putting in low energy light bulbs is good – but encouraging you employees to turn out the lights when they are not needed turns good into great.

Make sure you communicate reduction targets to all staff, together with clear examples of how they can help to achieve this, such as turning off lights and equipment when not in use, taking the train instead of driving, and co-ordinating meetings to cut down on the level of travel required.

You can also incentivise staff – such as offering a prize for the best resource- or energy-saving idea submitted.

And remember – with their help you will save money as well.

Your employees are also one of your biggest advocates – they recommend your business to others.

Engaged and motivated staff who understand the issues will also help you with step three - joining the growing ‘green’ economy
