GENERAL INFORMATION
London faces complex issues of sustainability and equality. It is forecast to grow by one million people by 2026, will host the Olympic Games in 2012 and is the most popular European location for a business HQ. However, at the same time it has the highest proportion of people in the UK out of work, unsustainable levels of pollution and waste and a widening gap between rich and poor.
The South East is the second most productive region of the UK after London. It is home to more than 8 million people and has a strong cultural heritage and major transport links, but it needs to continually improve its overall performance on education, skills and the environment to sustain its position internationally.
