SOUTH WEST

GENERAL INFORMATION

The South West is defined by its outstanding natural beauty, diverse economy and world class higher education institutions.  Home to 5.1 million people and with an economy valued at £84.6 billion, the region generates 9% of the total output of England.

The Index of Multiple Deprivation, however, shows that the region has some of the most deprived wards in England, many of these in Bristol, the region’s largest city.  Cornwall is also classified as one of the highest priority areas for European funding through Objective One status.
