Sustainability and small to medium sized enterprises - how to engage them
Author Linda Condon
Published by The National Centre for Sustainability, Swinburne University of Techonology, Melborne, Australia

Summary
Author Dr Linda Condon asserts that while small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are well positioned to respond to growing demands for sustainable business practices, they do not have enough information about sustainability and consumer demand for sustainable business practices.  Although some SMEs are engaging in sustainable business practices, most do not understand the long term advantages of sustainable development and see it as an increased burden on their business.  Outlining the business benefits for SMEs, Dr Condon proposes a new educational program targeted at reducing this information gap.
